About iRankGames

iRankGames was born from a concrete frustration: finding your next game to play is harder than it should be. Bestseller lists don't reflect real quality, and store recommendation algorithms prioritize whoever pays more for ads.

We built iRankGames to give an honest answer to two questions: which games are genuinely the best in their genre? And which games are most similar to one you already love? All based on data, not opinions or payments.

The iRank Score is a 0–100 rating that combines multiple data sources into a single reliable metric. It's not a simple average: each source is weighted differently based on its review volume and editorial rigour.

To prevent games with few reviews from inflating the ranking, we apply Bayesian shrinkage: a game with 50 reviews and a perfect 97 ranks behind a game with 500,000 reviews and a solid 93. Same technique used by IMDb's Top 250.

iRankGames community votes are also folded into the calculation, though with a smaller weight than editorial sources.

The "similar games" engine analyses over 70 gameplay attributes per title: primary genre and subgenres, game mode, camera perspective, combat system, setting, narrative pace, progression mechanics and more.

Each attribute has a weighted intensity (a game being "RPG-adjacent" is not the same as being a pure CRPG), and weights are tuned so genre similarity counts more than, say, visual style.

iRankGames receives no money from developers or publishers to position their games. Rankings are the direct output of the algorithm — no manual intervention, no sponsorships.

We are an independent project. If display advertising is added in the future, it will be clearly disclosed and will not affect ranking order.
